I had contacted Proz to ask if there was a way to alter entries that I knew without doubt were egregiously incorrect (with rock solid references) and was advised. I think this is a disservice, because in my field, and can;t speak to others, there really are, I think too many errors that are easily corrected.

As I recall, the other operationnel should have been translated "operations" and this one should probably be management.

Even if the contexts are different, Asker ought at least to cross-reference to the earlier question and explain in what way s/he feels the context is different.

Regarding the state of the glossary, it's not fair to say that the "powers-that-be" are indifferent — but with several million glossary entries to review, it would be a mammoth task; and in any case, who in fact is in such a position of linguistic authority as to decide what is right or wrong?

May I draw you attention to the 'Contribute to this entry' link (at the top right of questions where a glossary entry has been made)? This giives you the opportunity to 'agree' or 'disagree' with the glossary entry and make comments — this is a very useful but under-used faciity, and I would urge you to do so any time you discover a glossary entry that you feel is inaccurate; I do this as a matter of course whenever I am searching back through the archives.

If you come across an actual error (as in typo, etc.), then by all means point that out to a mod. But we are not allowed to take linguistic decisions.

If you wish to continue this discussion, please take it to a forum or private correspondence, as here is not the right place.

I think the other 'operationnel' the other day was in a different context and would be translated differently, and the asker was justified to post twice. Some times words are translated differently in different contexts. In any case, many of the entries in the glossary are incorrect. I have brought this to attention but the powers that be seem indifferent. Some of them are way off base, especially in finance.
