I'm currently translating a CV and am having difficulties with a few terms. The person in question is a storyboard artist and describes having worked on storyboards for both a "film publicitaire" and a "clip publicitaire"? What would the difference be between these two terms? Could the "film" be an advert shown in the cinema and the "clip" an advert shown on TV?

agree Tony M : I'd certainly agree that the 'clip' version is a TV commercial — it is important to remember that 'clip' is used in a slightly different way in FR from in EN (e.g. clip [FR] = (music) video) — i.e. not simply an extract from something longer, as in EN.

However, after seeking clarification from the client, it turned out that in this case the 'clip' was actually an online video ad - not something you could have known without further context. Publicity film/Advertising clip

Not a specialist in this area, but I'd say a film is usually longer (typically 10 minutes) whereas a clip is usually short, say a minute. But I don't think there's a hard and fast difference. My term selections are simply based on google hits.
