(side) cover extension
The whole thing is generally called a "tailpipe cover," so I guess that "Blende" would be best referred to as an extension or side extension of the cover. See Bernd's link for the relevant image.

: OK, I see what you're getting at, I guess I'd call it a "side extension" without the word cover, since it's inherent in the context.

Thanks, Richard, much appreciated. Agree with you on using just "side extension."

Ich habe noch einen Link beigefügt, wo man das Teil sieht.

Daniel Arnold (X)
: I believe this is part of an exhaust system, and not so much the sunshade inside the car.

visual cover screen
Dies waere mein Vorschlag wenn es sich um einen optischen Effekt handelt indem man eine Verblendung/Verschalung auf etwas aufsetzt um eine verbessertes Aussehen zu erreichen.

: Although it may serve a screening function, I don't think "screen" is an appropriate term here...

Exhaust pipe tip cover
This is what I used recently in a press release for VW. The exact word translated there was 'Endschalldämpferblende', which I think means the same as your 'Sichtschutzblende' in this case.
In any event the customer seemed quite satisfied with the translation.

Bernd Runge
: This seems to refer to the extended outboard section of it. http://www.golfvigti.com/topic.php?p=67679
How would you differentiate between this one and one with a square-ended standard 'engine side' (opposite the tip side), then?

I don't understand your argumentation - The picture is exactly what I understand to be a "tip cover"

Edwin Miles
: With Bernd. The point is that the Sichtschutzblende only refers to the extension of the cover on one side. The whole unit might be called an "exhaust pipe tip cover," but the extension on the side, as referred to in this bullet point, is not.

Sorry I still don't understand the logic - a cover is not necessarily something that surrounds completely - think of bed covers or table covers, which are only on top.

: I agree with Bernd and Edwin; I would associate your term with the entire item, not just the decorative side extensions being specifically referred to here.

Yeah, I think we're all pretty much in agreement on that (see my agree below).

Deutsch term (edited):
Seitliche Sichtschutzblende (optische Verlängerung )
Decorative side trim extension (increases apparent length)
In the UK, the general term for this sort of decorative part (Auspuffendblende) is "exhaust/tail pipe TRIM" (rather than tip, cover or extension).
("Trim" implies visually hiding something.)
The term in question here, however, is referring to (borrowing medical terminology) the anterodistal elongation of the part so that the existing exhaust pipe onto which it is being welded cannot be seen from the side through the bumper cut-out.
In this case I'd reword and use a descriptive phrase that, in combination with the picture, gets the idea across without sounding overly "technical" (as this appears to be a marketing description).

muffler tip
Exhaust pipe extension or muffler tip. No literal translation of Sichtschutzblende needed, imo.
