Obviously, I don't have the entire text and have to go with the background info you submitted. There's nothing about a job here, so it has nothing to do with anyone being fired. "baja" in this context, along with a custody suit and minor... all suggest that it refers to the minor being expelled from school and so I'm with you.

There is no mention of anything to do with the mother's job, but your explanation of "unjustified absences" triggered the connection in my brain. One of the children was expelled from school for having too many absences, which the father is citing as one of the reasons that the mother is not competent in caring for the kids. So obviously this is referring to the child's record of having been expelled. Can you post that as an answer Lorena and I can award the points? Thanks!

on Mexican sites "Baja por faltas injustificadas" seems to mean that somebody is fired for unjustified absences, but I don't know how this could fit in your context. I am wondering whether the mother was fired from her job and this is one of the bases for the father to ask for full custody of the children. Does the brief mention anything to that effect?
