This is from a a friend's description of Boris Yeltsin when he was having problems with the Party leadership during his time First Secretary of the Moscow Municipal Committee.

Мне кажется, что уже тогда такой масштаб Ельцина, как незаурядной личности и выдающегося политика, уже закладывался, он уже чувствовался. Не последнюю роль здесь, на мой взгляд, сыграли, может быть, три предпосылки: первое – это его корни, это уникальность, с одной стороны, и типичность его родственного, семейного исторического происхождения: зажиточный род с безусловным, можно так сказать, культурным кодом.
