Spanish term

alejada del /los tumores (SA)

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Oncology
This is a research study on quantitative proteomics in the tumor progression of gastric antraladenocarcinoma. I have no idea what the (SA) stands for or what it refers to. Any help would be appreciated. The context is the following:

"Se recogieron muestras de la zona tumoral (TU) y como control, una muestra de una zona sana del mismo estomago, alejada del/los tumores** (SA)**. Tras su extirpación, se transportaron en fresco al biobanco y al laboratorio de anatomía patológica, de cada uno de los hospitales previamente mencionados."
Proposed translations (English)
4 SA= sana (healthy)

Pamela Faber Benitez (asker) Mar 31, 2016:
It did occur to me that it could be an abbreviation in one of the tables. So, I looked, but that was not the case. I know that in oncology, TU is used for tumor identification, but I have not been able to find SA in reference to anything. It would be nice if doctors could think and write coherently, but I guess that this would be too much to ask. Thus, it could be the personal shorthand of one of the authors. If all else fails, I will have to ask them.

My guess Is that it's a label on a diagram.

Agree with Charles It looks like it could be somebody's personal shorthand. I don't think it's an officially established abbreviation (although in medicine you never know, there are so many). If possible, I always check this kind of thing with the client or author.
Charles Davis Mar 31, 2016:
So I suppose you could either leave it as it is and add a note or translate "zona sana" as "healthy area" and use HE.
Charles Davis Mar 31, 2016:
@Pamela I'm guessing, which is why I'm not posting this as an answer, but given that TU stands for (zona) TUmoral I imagine SA simply stands for (zona) SAna.
