goalie didn't fully understand the history, 1984. But did "get the gist"of what to do Explanation: it wasn’t understood, as well, what that was about (1984 was decided on penalties, and history had a part to play),... speaking in Scouse accent but he got the gist of it...=he did manage to understand the basics which was to try to follow the instructions to put his opponents off by various antic like eating the back of the net etc "Do as much as you can to put them off because, you know, you’re not going get this chance again" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 mins (2016-04-29 15:16:56 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- So Carragher is saying that maybe Bruce Grobbelaar didn't understand the reason this was so important perhaps (because of the Scouse/Liverpool accent) but HAd understood he was to try and distract the opposing players -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day3 hrs (2016-04-30 18:55:53 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Glad to have helped (and sorry I initially got goalies mixed up...pressure of work) I'm fairly confident it means this. Dudek may not have fully understood what happened in 1984 and why Grobbelaar got up to those antics but DID understand he was to try and distract opponents like Grobelaar. "Spaghetti legs" here at 7.40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSESauE2LP4 and here's Dudek http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/soccer/soccer-news/former-li... ...Carra was the most excited. He pushed me, got right into my face and shouted at me. ‘Jerzy, try to do something to put them off. Do you remember Grobbelaar? Be like him, he irritated everyone! Do the wobbly legs! Move around on the goal-line! Distract them!’ ‘Okay Carra, okay, okay! But leave me alone, let me focus on the penalties!’... |
