It's an ethicon trademark. The "sutures" is suture threads/lines, the 'wing' is how the suture is performed, how the thread goes about the lesion for closure - it can be "wing", "mattress".
The material used to close the wound is still a thread, which can be braided or mono - see http://www.ethicon.com for the specs of the product involved in your text. I think it's more of a direct connection of lesion flaps/wings. You can also find videos with the procedure.
