French term or phrase: EAF- Épreuve anticipée de français.
The term "EAF- (Épreuve anticipée de français)" comes from a School Report for The third term in France. The school subject is French and the term comes from The Results Assessment and Report of the subject.

The full term which I found in wikipedia is- Épreuve anticipée de français. Although the full-term is not present in the text, just the abbreviation.

The actual context: "Ce manque de sérieux pourrait être préjudciable à l'EAF.

English translation:French examination (to be taken/sat in Première)
Explanation:
In the context of a report, the reference is being made to an exam that lies ahead and that is to be taken in "Première", the penultimate year of the lycée.

As you can see in the reference post, the EAF is taken at the end of the première, whereas the rest of the exams in the baccaluréat programme are all taken in the last year, in "Terminale". Tht is how "anticipée" comes about. This exam, togetehr with a group project, the TPE, are taken one year before the bulk of the exams. It is considered that the skills are in place by Première and it gives the students the chance to get it out of the way.

All parts are taken in permière, Oral and Written. See ref; below.

L'EAF existe depuis 1969.

In the US, most universities allow their students to take 'advance credit exams', i.e., exams providing credits factored into the final exam.

In my mind, the French literature exam in France is an advance credit exam and the Baccalaureate is the final exam.

neutral  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: It is not clear in English to say that it is taken in advance of the bac; it is, after all, part of the bac. The French papers are sat one year ahead of the other papers of the bac. You'd have to indicate "...in advance of the other exams of..."

-> I don't understand! the Baccalaureate is a composite exam

disagree  Germaine: Il y a une grosse différence entre cet examen global de français (cf. référence fournie par Nikki) et un "examen de littérature française"!
