If we used a Profit and Loss statement, we'd used profit/loss but the company has an Income Statement so we use income/loss.

our company refuses to use the term profit - we use gains or earnings depending on whether they're shares or not, revenues for proventi and income for risultati or the generic 'results' in a general discourse.

We've had this many times before

They're synonyms in my opinion.

Please do check the glossary before you post questions - with a term as common as this, it will almost certainly have been asked before.
Note from asker:
Hello Phil, did check and say different answers in the glossary, which is why I was asking.
Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree Dominic Currie : net income and net profit or loss are synonyms: net income is generally seen in US financial statements, whereas net profit/(loss) is UK and European financial statements prepared in accordance with the IFRS.

Synonyms for 'risultato'

I agree with Phil that 'net income' and 'net profit or loss' are synonyms for 'risultato'.
Net income is generally seen in US financial statements, whereas net profit/(loss) is used in UK and European financial statements prepared in accordance with the IFRS.
In some contexts, 'risultato' can also be 'earnings' or 'net earnings', which is another synonym for net income or net profit or loss.
However, translating 'risultato' as 'result' is not correct in my opinion, because it does not correspond to the English used in US GAAP and IFRS documents and literature.

Note from asker:
Hello Dominic, thanks for the note and indeed I had used earning as the term result seems to be incoherent with the accounting language at stake.
