conexión de la pieza
consolidation with the bundle

Explanation:
In both the USA and E&W, joinder of criminal defendants / accused(s), as opposed to consolidation of criminal indictments and appeals.

Pieza > part of the record of a judicial proceeding; pieza de autos > main part of the record; pieza separada > collateral issue, West.

Emphasis on the USA for Guatemalan consumption and to broaden the horizons, paradoxically, of Anglo-Centric travellers.

Example sentence(s):
  • USA, NY Crim. Proc. Section 200.40 - Indictment; joinder of defendants and consolidation of indictments against different defendants
  • USA, Florida : Consolidation may take several forms. The rule permits the court to combine cases for discovery only, for trial only, or for all purposes. See Fla.R.Civ.P.

neutral  Taña Dalglish: Why? By your own admission, you say "joinder" is okay! https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/joinder (a joining of causes of action or defence);//So what does statement mean "to broaden the horizons, paradoxically, of Anglo-Centric travellers"?

neutral  AllegroTrans: Criminal proceedings against defendants XXX and YYY are indeed being consolidated, but why "with the bundle"? Doesn't make any sense to me

  -> pieza can be a bundle or part of an action. The question relates to the 'connection'. BTW, my youngest brother is a UK Scrabble championship runner-up.

agree  Jennifer Levey: Yes, 'consolidation' of selected pleadings/evidence etc. from one case with those of another, as distinct from a 'joinder' which has the effect of amalgamating cases as a whole. 'with the bundle' is superfluous.

  -> Gracias and thanks, Jennifer.

agree  Sandro Tomasi: Joinder is done by a party; consolidation is done by a court. In both instances, whole cases are being heard together. I’m not sure if “consolidation” would be the term here, but it certainly is not joinder.
