We don\'t refer to the membership card in this context.
We do however refer to the card itself when someone is leaving a political party (or a trade union), e.g. \"it took Scargill 10 years before he tore up his membership card \" http://www.cpgb.org.uk/worker/227/sharvey.html This may be used only by the left - I\'m not certain if it\'s used with reference to the Conservatives.

: Hmm, but you don't specifically apply to be a "card-carrying member" (which just means a very enthusiastic one, usually left wing). Parties don't give some people a special sort of membership so that they can carry their cards around with them ;-)
