Fifth Form

... or at least that's what it was called in my day. Counting backwards, you have Terminale, premiere, seconde, troisieme, etc. So there are two years to go.

The system is, of course, different. My son is in seconde and there is much more of a sixth-form kind of structure, imo. Mind you, it's several decades since I was at school.

although the (kind of) equivalent exam in France (brevet) takes place in troisieme. Like I said, different system.
neutral Charlie Bavington : 5th *year* where I was :-) As Estelle says, they don't call it that now :-( I expect they'll soon decide that numbers = hierarchy and change it to Red Year, Yellow Year, Green Year etc. New Labour, New Bull... (whoops, out of space)
