Chipmunk no es un solo tipo de ardilla con rayas, sino dos géneros (Eutamias y Tamias) que abarcan diferentes especies. Squirrel se refiere sólo a ardillas arborícolas.
La diferencia marcada entre unas y otras es el tipo de vida, pues unas construyen túneles (chipmunks), mientras otras viven en los árboles (squirrels). Nota: hay ardillas con rayas que viven en los árboles (Funambulus Palmarum) y no se les llama chipmunks.

Explanation:
Es una idea, por si no encontrás un nombre en español. Por lo menos acá en el sur no hay ardillas que no sean importadas. Por lo que yo se, las chipmunk tienen rayas negras en el lomo y las squirrels no.

El truco es que busqué en Google ambos géneros, tanto \"Tamia\" como \"Sciuridae\", limitando la búsqueda al idioma español, a ver qué salía.

Yo creo que si te refieres a los animales en términos generales, puedes usar \"ardilla\" solamente. Si es específico, habría que ver cuál es la clase o subdivisión dentro del género (nunca me acuerdo cómo es el orden en esto de zoología) del animal que buscas.
