accepting sub-domain mail Aug 17, 2006

I have a machine that sometimes tries to send me mail. The machine is "laika.tiros.net", but it lives on a local net so it is not known to the world. Nonetheless it can send mail out.

But the messages are not accepted as the domain "laika.tiros.net" is not known:

550-Verification failed for 550-unrouteable mail domain "laika.tiros.net"
550 Sender verify failed (in reply to RCPT TO command)

Since "tiros.net" is a domain being hosted here for me, shouldn't it be possible for me to send mail to any subdomain? Is there something I need to set up for this (but shouldn't there be a catchall function in effect, anyhow)?

Trying myself I get:

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

testing@sub.tiros.net
unrouteable mail domain "sub.tiros.net"

Thanks in advance,

Kevin
