Primero había pensado en dejar intermezzo o poner "estuvo brevemente asociado a Tommy Dorsey". Pero una sociedad se hace entre iguales y Krupa era una batería solista que en lugar de tocar en un big band de otro líder formó su propia banda. Intermezzo creo que aqui tiene una connotación de "insignificante, muy pasajero".
In the summer of 1943, Krupa was arrested in San Francisco in a bogus drug bust. He was charged with possession of marijuana and contributing to the deliquency of a minor. Gene was sentenced to 90 days, of which 84 were served. He was later cleared of the latter charges. During this time, Roy Eldridge led Gene's band and eventually had to break up the group. After Gene got out of jail, he briefly joined up with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey before re-forming his own band. Krupa's groups of the early 1940's were often criticized as being too commercial but Gene's big band was one of the first in the mid-forties to introduce Bop arrangements with the help of Gerry Mulligan and the playing of trumpeter Red Rodney. Gene managed to keep the full band together until December of 1950, when most big bands had already fallen apart. He kept a smaller version of the big band together through 1951.

Gene Krupa (January 15, 1909 – October 16, 1973) was a famous and influential Polish-American jazz and big band drummer, known for his highly energetic and flamboyant style.
Krupa was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began playing professionally in the mid 1920s with bands in Wisconsin.
Krupa moved to New York City in 1929 and worked with the band of Red Nichols. In 1934 he joined Benny Goodman's band, where his featured drum work made him a national celebrity. In 1938 he left Goodman to lead his own band, which he did until 1943. ***After some months back with Goodman and then with Tommy Dorsey he started a new big band***-- one of the largest dance bands of the era, sometimes containing up to 40 musicians. He gradually cut down the size of the band in the late 1940s, and from 1951 on led a trio or quartet. He appeared regularly with the Jazz At the Philharmonic shows.
Tommy Dorsey (November 19, 1905–November 26, 1956) was a jazz trombonist in the Big Band era.
Thomas Dorsey was born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania and is the younger brother of Jimmy Dorsey.
He worked with many bands in the New York City area starting in the 1920s, including the bands of Rudy Vallee, Vincent Lopez, and Paul Whiteman. With brother Jimmy, he led the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra until they split up (with some acrimony) in 1935. The brothers also appeared as session musicians on many jazz recordings.
Tommy Dorsey formed his own band, which was very successful. The band featured trumpeters Bunny Berigan and Charlie Shavers, arranger Sy Oliver, and singers Jo Stafford and Frank Sinatra. Sinatra achieved his first great success as a vocalist in the Dorsey band and claimed he learned breath control from watching Dorsey play trombone. Dorsey said his trombone style was heavily influenced by that of Jack Teagarden.
Tommy married Jane Dorsey (1924?-August 24, 2003) in 1947 and remained his wife until his death. She had been a dancer at the world-renowned Copacabana. In 1956 Tommy Dorsey died at age 51 in his Greenwich, Connecticut home in his sleep, choking on food. Dorsey was interred in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York. Jane died of natural causes at age 79.
