German term

Entwicklungsdruck

German to English Marketing Telecom(munications)
"Ein diffuser Entwicklungsdruck war spürbar [in der Gruppendiskussion]:"

"Widerstand gegen Entwicklungsdruck"

These two sentences are from a market research report on cable television. From the context, it is clear that "Entwicklungsdruck" means "pressure to keep with the times by getting digital TV (or similar new-fangled gadgetry)".

It's not quite "peer pressure" but is in that ballpark. Something with "consumer", perhaps? Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Entwicklungsversprechen The flipside of "Entwicklungsdruck" is "Entwicklungsversprechen", as in "Faszination durch Entwicklungsversprechen"

pressure to keep up with the technology

and "resistance against pressure etc." Seems best to me - I'm not sure there is a neat one-word translation.

pressure for progress

i.e. there was a certain (tangible) pressure for progress

But I wouldn't commit myself to the above without more context/text.
