Iron ones cast horizontally, so the metal wasn't denser at the breech, causing a weak muzzle.

: "to bore = λειαίνω εσωτερικά". Μήπως εννοεί λείανε εσωτερικά τις κάννες; Ξέρω ότι η λεία κάννη λέγεται smooth-bored barrel. Μήπως να το ψάξουμε λίγο ακόμα;
