Zhusta chlapci zhusta, konec masopusta, Stare baby placu, hej, ze sa nevyskacu ..., lads, ..., it's the end of the carnival, old beldames are crying that the dancing is over Explanation: ...for example. Am not really sure about the word zhusta. my dictionary offers "often, frequently" but it doesn't seem to go in there. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 mins (2007-02-05 21:38:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- the word "chlapei" should be "chlapci" meaning boys, lads -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 27 mins (2007-02-05 21:56:39 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Explanation find here: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/dict.asp?Word=beldame The words "stare baby" mean "old ladies". Except for that we wouldn't say "ladies" but something rather more expressive in this context. I was trying to find such word and I found "beldames". The explanation at thefreedictionary.com is quite suitable, except for that I don't think the old women in the song are ugly (as the explanation says). To make it clear, "stare baby" would mean "old women" said by men in a village. ;-) |
