Spanish term

zapaton

How can I differentiate this from just a "shoe". It's hard to describe it without a picture, but it is leather and more like a dress shoe or school shoe. It has a rather large sole and is a bit "chunkier" than a normal shoe. Thanks!!

I hope this helps

I need the context, because if it is not a local (Chile) term for the shoe you talk about, in Spanish "zapatón" could apply to a big shoe as well as to a woman's shoe that is quite masculine...

sturdy walking shoes

Suerte!

Skechers / leather brogue / clodhopper

Clodhoppers are heavy, leather broad-bottomed shoes worn by farm persons. The broad soles of the shoes permit the foot to span lumpy clods left from plowing and other cultivating. Hence, there was born the idea that the shoe enabled feet to hop over clods.

Some Americans living in the South, as well as many African Americans use the term "clodhoppers" to refer to any kind of shoes.

In the UK the term is often used as a term to imply clumsiness associated with wearing large shoes / boots.

You're absolutely right!

Note from asker:
Thanks for your feedback, but I was under the impression that Skechers was a brand name... As this is for a shoe company I can't really use the name of another company for their shoe... please correct me if I'm wrong... gracias

work shoe, heavy-duty shoe

Hello Neozelatino

Thank you for the picture!!

Slightly different to mine!

and less elegant too!

Looks like a "walking shoe" to me...

I don't think you could go walking in "court shoes"....though some women would no doubt!!

Why didn't I get the points, after all the effort, and suggesting "walking shoe"?

Note from asker:
If you see the picture I posted above, I'm pretty sure that it's not a court shoe...
