Repacking and Transporting:
If the machine is connected to a telephone or your computer, remove the telephone line or printer cable.
Lift the platen unit lever, slide the platen unit and open the drum cartridge cover.
Pull out the shipping attachment you inserted in the holder when installing the machine.(The removed shipping attachment is needed on step 6.)
Close the cartridge cover and slide the platen unit to the original position.
Step 6. Attach the removed shipping attachment on the left side of the machine using a coin.

I think that the shipping attachment is some sort of blocking device that stops the internal moving parts of the machine from getting damaged during transport.
By some design, that attachment needs to be secured by turning a round lid with a groove on it, using a coin, which means you're not going to break your fingernails.
that's the way I see it anyway.

I don\'t think that the shipping attachment serves any purpose other than during shipping, but it\'s probably kept, or affixed for storage purpose, somewhere inside the machine, since you need it again when you need to change locations, send it for repair, etc.
