Hello, this phrase appears in an appeal brief: The statistics alone are sufficient to conclude that the possibility that a given piece of beef bought in Europe is contaminated with the prohibited substance is vanishingly thin.

What I understand is that according to the statististics provided the possibility of contaminated meat is dissapearing.

Las estadísticas anteriores son suficientes por sí solas para concluir que la posibilidad de que unapieza de carne adquirida en Europa esté contaminada con la sustancia prohibida es cada vez menos probable.

I would like to know if there are other options.

Although it looks like it means this, there is NO sense of 'cada vez mas' with this word.

En la idea de "vanish" está implícito el matiz dinámico o proceso de cambio, pero no en "vanishingly". Estoy complementamente seguro de ello. ¡Siento ser tan tajante! Saludos.

No. Charles is right. Try googling - vanishingly definition - and have a look yourself what it means. It is a rare word in English so I looked it up myself. What vanishingly small here is that it is so small that it virtually vanishes. It is an adverb because it qualifies an adjective and therefore ends 'ingly' which you are confusing with some sort of trend or movement.

En la idea de desaparecer (vanish) hay un matiz dinámico. Algo que existía deja de estar ahí (totalmente o con la frecuencia con que antes se hacía presente). Se ha dado un proceso de cambio. Los controles sanitarios son cada vez más estrictos cuando la alarma de contaminación salta. No descarto sin embargo que estés en lo cierto. Saludos

"Vanishingly" no quiere decir que está desapareciendo. No es en absoluto progresivo; no implica que la probabilidad está disminuyendo. Quiere decir, sencillamente, que está muy cerca de ser invisible o inexistente: "vanishingly: so as to be almost nonexistent or invisible <the difference is vanishingly small>" http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vanishingly.
Cualquier traducción con "cada vez más" es incorrecta aquí.
