Even before the ratings and V-chip, considerable control was exercised at the individual company level. Each network maintains a standards and practices department, which reviews programming and advertisements in the light of company-wide standards. This department issues and administers in-house guidelines on a variety of issues. Many of its concerns reflect the need to conform to the FCC restrictions. Other standards and practices recommendations reflect the twin goals of serving the good of society and preserving the image of the network.

查了一下，serve the good of 貌似出现频率还算不低，但是没找到对应的准确的中文译文。
感觉server the good of society是“为社会造福”的意思。serve是提供/充当的意思，good是利益/好处的意思。直译就是“充当社会的利益”，所以译作：“为社会造福/造福于社会”。
不知我的理解是否准确，据此这个短语怎么解释，怎样翻译更准确，还有劳各位指教。先行谢过。
