blind hoistway Explanation: There isn't much to go on but it could refer to the dimensions of a blind sector of the hoistway. Generally the hoistway serves all floors of the building but in some buildings an elevator may not stop on special floors like maintenance or technical areas. However, if the car stops in a blind hoistway due to a power failure or other fault there must be an emergency door to allow passengers to exit.
