The sludge passes through two digesters. In each digester, the sludge is stabilized or \"digested\" by anaerobic microoranisms that use the nutrients in the sludge as food. While the microorganisms digest the sludge they produce Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S). The sludge is mixed by recirculating the methane gas with air compressors
Digesters may be too technical for your context.
