Agree with "first of its kind" or "oldest of its kind" in this context. Further, the name of the church in Italian actually provides a clue to what can possibly be done with "human bone church" -- the term "ossuary" would be a very good place to start.

Not far away from the cathedral, Chiesa di S. Bernardino alle Ossa, a Milan human bone church, which can be dated back to the 17th century, is the first of its kind.
