How Women Vote: Are they finding their voice? Explanation: The German phrase is used to great rhetorical effect here. Of course, you can use short succinct phrases to similar effect in English, too. But if you have to mirror it on a German source text, that makes the job much harder to pull off. So in this case you may have no choice but to rewrite that for your English version. My suggestion covers the theme of women's voices needing to be heard (Frauenstimmen) while giving the 'Stimmen Frauen?' question a slightly sharper edge. |

The female vote. Are women onboard? Explanation: In a specific Swiss context. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs (2021-09-29 03:49:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 2018 marks 100 years since some women were given the vote in parliamentary elections and 90 years since women got to vote on equal terms to men. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs (2021-09-29 03:52:02 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- When this came up in Switzerland, surprisingly a lot of women were against it and having lived in la belle suisse I know the way the system works. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs (2021-09-29 03:53:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- forget the "some" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs (2021-09-29 03:58:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- They have 4 referenda/referendums (preferable) per annum in Switzerland and everybody has a chance to express their opinion and vote on the issues concerned. |
