Please consider the following sentence:
他們兩個人平時喜歡旅行。
Although one dictionary meaning of the word 平時 is "usually", I find it very difficult to render it that way in this sentence.
For example, one might say that someone usually likes to travel to England, meaning that one has a preference for travelling to England when travel is undertaken. In this particular case the entire essay is about two people who like to travel very much. So there is no need to state that travelling is how they usually spend their free time.
Your insight would be appreciated.

So 平時 is \'often\' here but you cannot add \'like\' after it. That is another subtle difference between Chinese and English.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.
Comment: "Certainly you sparked an interesting discussion with your reply. I was even tempted to bring the matter to the attention of the English language bulletin board. Since there were only three of us who appeared interested I decided not.
Thanks to both you and Albon, but as always I can only award the points to one. Maybe next time Albon!"

usually
The whole sentence is "These two people usually (or normally) like travelling." The sentence does not say they usually spend their time travelling; it only says they usually enjoy travelling.

You can use \'usually likes travelling\' in English with no problem consider this example--\"They usually like travelling, but not this time, because they had everything stolen except their toothbrushes.\"

Discussion
They like travelling, but not this time, because everything was stolen except their toothbrushes.
This sentence conveys the same meaning less the somewhat cynical nuance that "they had everything stolen". One usually has something done, because one wants to have it done.
Please do not use Babelfish as your source, however. It will make many people laugh.
Consider the following: "Though he likes drinking tea with his friends in the morning, he usually does not, because he is busy with work." In other words one expects that if you like drinking tea with your friends, then it is an activity in which you probably engage often.
