Non-ProZ.com Apr 8, 2005:
To Fuad yahya: Sorry again. The question is the Arabic spelling of the Omani city Kilwa.
To Sam Berner and Mona Helal: Google hits I'm afraid are no help. is also (a) kidney, is also eat it, gets mixed with kilogram. A good map in Arabic is not available, to me at least.
Sam Berner (X) Apr 8, 2005:
I think the question is, how do you spell this place-name in Arabic, right? Now it looks we have 4 different spellings. What I would do is to enter and each of the four spellings into Google and see which one pulls more answers. Or grab a good atlas.
Fuad Yahya Apr 8, 2005:
Sam has not closed the question. Since you are the asker, you are the only one who can close the question. The point is that I do not yet see a question. I only see a geogrphical statement. A question would help Sam and others provide an answer.
Sam Berner (X) Apr 8, 2005:
Yes, they all do mention that it is on a small island east of Zanzibar and that it was an Omani major trading post.
Non-ProZ.com Apr 8, 2005:
To Fuad Yahya: Sorry Fuad that I was not very clear. I think Sam Berner has just closed the question.
To Sam Berner: Text sort of implies it is in Oman on the Omani coast. There's definitely a Kilwa in Zanzibar, 3 of them, maps refer to them as Kilwa Kivinji, Kilwa Masoko and an island Kilwa Kisiwani. Do the other references you refer to with the - - refer to Tanzania also.
Fuad Yahya Apr 7, 2005:
Since this is a name of a City, what exactly is the question? How can we help you?

thanks, Mona. Interesting how a place created by Arabs can have more than one Arabic spelling. Amazing!
