Non-ProZ.com (asker) Oct 29, 2007:
Flying the flag for eco-tourism Thank you for all the translations suggesteg so far, and also for Siragui's note, which is very pertinent, and highlights the difficulty I have in translating this line. In light of the whole article, "flying the flag" is meant to include everyone: it is a statement about what the tour operator in question are doing, but also an invitation to potential clients, and a call to other agencies and tour operators not yet "acting responsibly" to follow suit.
In addition, it is supposed to be a slogan, hence a "snappy" translation has to be found. Though most of the suggested translations are very helpful in themselves, they do not easily lend themselves to making a punchy line, particularly in the imperative.
I'll be grateful for any further suggestions!

A general question: who's supposed to accomplish said act. In the original it's obviously the agency. But what happens when you turn this into an "impératif"? Is the client supposed to raise the flag? I don't think so. Maybe "Nous ...ons" ...

terme consacré, je sais, de la marine, mais pourquoi pas ?
Note from asker:
Thank you. Although I was not able to use the French phrase in this instance for the reasons already explained, I think the phrase should prove to be a good rendition of the English original in most other contexts.

"hissez les couleurs" est une expression militaire pour la mise en place du drapeau sur le mât, mais elle est également employée par ailleurs...

agree siragui : From a strictly cultural point of view, I'd see a reference to "colours" going over better in France than flag-waving.
