Is there such a term as "butadicne" or could it possibly be a typo for "butadiene"?
The series of dyes, ’l,4“-diphenyl-1.3-butadicne, 1.6-diphenyl-’l,3,5“-hexatriene, and ’l,8“-diphenyl-’l,3,5,7“-octatetraene, can be used to demonstrate that the maximum wavelength at which these molecules absorb can be predicted with reasonable accuracy.
"butadicne" does get a few googles though, but that doesn´t really convince me :-)
TIA for your help.

No such thing as butadicne; it has to be a scanner OCR error.
