Then, you can control flash output compensation by setting the required level on the external Speedlight (SB-600, SB-800, SB-900); the flash output compensation factor will not be overridden by the D3, allowing you to obtain repeatable flash exposures. (Magic Lantern Guides, page 323)
In AA mode, flash output compensation is possible in 1/3 steps from -3.0 to +1.0EV by pressing the { or } button to increase or decrease the compensation while confirming the amount on the LCD panel. (Modern Classic SLRs Series)
