A trending market will often consist of a trading day with the Dow trading positive while NASDAQ trades negative. The following day or two, the opposite might be true. However, seeing a negative day on the Dow during an uptrend, accompanied by a positive day in the NASDAQ, provides comforting information. Nothing has changed in investor sentiment. There was merely shifting of funds from sector to sector. It is when an uptrend sees a strong sell signal in both the Dow and the NASDAQ on the same day, breaching support levels, that it can be assumed there has been a change in investor sentiment.
