routes é uma palavra que geralmente se deixa em Inglês quando se trata de contextos de Internet/Software. Mas também pode traduzi-la por rota. São as chamadas routes ou rotas de Gateway...
O seu texto refere-se a uma rota/route específica ou seja ouma rota de ultimo recurso. Infelizmente não tenho conhecimentos técnicos para lhe explicar do que se trata, só mesmo quem está dentro de programação informática.
