Context The general requirement of storm management systems can be summarised as follows:
� Retain the so-called first flush of solids during the beginning of a storm event;
� Retain the initial higher flows from the sewerage system until such time as the flows are dilute enough to minimise their environmental impact;
� Allow the retained storm flows to be passed back to the WWTP for full treatment;
� Finally to provide a minimum level of treatment generally in the form of screening for sewage that is being discharged direct to the water course.
