On automatic operation, the swivel pinion is controlled pneumatically not before
standstill of the plant or synchronous movement of the swivel pinion and the barring ring. During acceleration of the turbine rotor to turn speed, the
pneumatic cylinder (10) holds the swivel pinion safely in the engaged position.
On turn operation, the swivel pinion is pressed by tooth forces against the barring ring (5), which is fitted on the shaft. Swivel pinion and barring ring are kept thereby engaged. Different to turn operation, the swivel pinion is driven by the turbine shaft, when the rotor is started. Then the tooth forces disengage the swivel pinion from the barring ring. The solenoid valve (figure 6, item number 11) is operated by the limit switches (6) and the swivel pinion is disengaged pneumatically to a lock position.
