English term

bopper / sap

Non-PRO English to Spanish Social Sciences Slang
It's coloquial language found in a police report. It probably refers to some type of weapon. I do not know what is.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

if they call marijuana; 'brocolli' then there are bound to be alternative meanings from the youth gangs of today.

OK--got something--a bopper is somekind of shooting weapon, a homemade weapon maybe--it's gang slang
Margaret Schroeder Apr 27, 2005:
I don't see why there's any room for doubt: "sap" is in the dictionary as a blackjack or bludgeon, and that's clearly the meaning in this text. "Bopper", as another way to name it, is a thing you "bop" (hit, whap) with.

thank you all for your time spent on researching this. If nothing else, I will have to contact the PD in question, although that never is easy. Thank you again.

more... it's a police report from a southern California police dept.
Non-ProZ.com Apr 27, 2005:
my apologies Here is the context: "...carrying what appeared to be a sap" "...flipping and catching waht appeared to be a bopper"

Both bopper and sap seem to refer to the same object.

comentario y experiencia personal acerca de "bopper"

Hola Hilda,

"Bopper Swords (pipe insulation around pbc pipe wrapped with duct tape)"

http://www.textfiles.com/rpg/rlrp.txt

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I apologize it has taken so long to grade this. Thank you all for your efforts. Oso, you were correct. They were homemade weapons similar to the ones you have described. Again, thank you all."
