Hi all,
If anybody has any thoughts on this, I'd be very grateful; the sentence comes from a Swiss tourist brochure and is referring to artwork in a (Swiss) church, and I'm struggling to find any translation at all for the aforementioned "Obblatt".

The late 16th century Santa Maria retable by an anonymous vernacular hand is amongst the most important paintings of the period in Gozo. Executed for Gozo’s cathedral also known as the ‘matrice-church’ the retable is composed of two longitudinal triptychs and a surmounting panel with a painted Coronation of the Virgin. The lower tier has at its centre a seated Virgin and Child which is flanked by two other panels which reveal the solitary, full length standing figures of Saints Peter and Paul respectively. The upper tier holds a depiction of The Assumption of the Virgin with the images of Angel Gabriel and the Virgin Annunciate on flanking panels.

I should think 'upper panel' is more usual, but one often sees 'surmounted by ....' - might be a finial, a coat-of-arms and in this case an upper panel.
