Discussion

Non-ProZ.com (asker) Apr 9, 2005:
Clarification I want to thank those who have responded to my request. I am doing research for a book I am writing about the first year of WWII, and am having to read widely in German books which contain information paralleling the subject of my book. Some of the terms I run into refer to items and/or conditions encountered in Germany between 1936 and 1941. They are often military terms and not in common use today. I am grateful for help from others who are more fluent in German than I am. Thank you. Malcolm

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "External observation towers fits the context of the rest of the passage quite well. The structures were, however, more like dome shaped turrets than like towers. 'Outlying' is also a very good choice as these observation turrets were sometimes separated from the main bunker by some distance, and were connected to it by a tunnel."
