Welche Fortschritte waren anzustreben ...

German to English Other
I need help translating the following question: Welche Fortschritte waren anzustreben oder zu nutzen?
Someone who has developed a new transmitter for detecting gas leaks is asked this question and although I know what is meant, I'm not sure how best to phrase the English? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Which improvements were intended or utilized?

I think the word "improvements" works better than "advances" since we are dealing with a concrete, tangible process. The sentence would probably work better in the active mode, such as "Which improvements were you intending or utilizing?," but there is not enough context to safely come up with a subject.

What progress was to be aimed at or taken advantage of.

Just a guess again.

Hope it helps a little.

which advances were desirable or useful?

- assuming "waren" and not "waeren"

If it were actually wären you could translate more idiomatically
"what improvements/advances/ additional developments would you welcome?"

just an idea...
