I am agreeing with Charles, but wanted to add something:
At the end of your question you say you're not sure whether "place-independent" is the correct term to use for your sentence. I do think that the term (location independent communication) applies, as they are discussing video meetings (skype etc.) and other forms of communication that is not dependent on the location of the participants.
We freelancers basically live a location independent lifestyle :-)
