I need the etymology of the Persian word. I know it referred to 'scarlet cloth'.
But why, how, when, etc. Does it come from any animal or plant? Thank you in anticipation.

The only meaning I can guess from the spelling of 'saqalat' is that it is in Farsi with the letter 's' (with three dots over it!) and 'q' as the letter 'qAf'. If that is correct, it means 'make heavy', 'solidify'. We have the Arabic phrase 'saqalat mavAzinoh' = (He) solidified his positions. We also have the word '(markaz-e) seql', a derivation, meaning '(center) of gravity'. But I have never heard of such a word meaning as the colour red!
If you provide some explanation about the exact spelling of the word, we might be able to help more!
Best regards
