Technology

Applicants in Food Science departments must provide evidence that they will enroll in at least one specialized course in the processing, chemistry or microbiology of milk or dairy products, and one additional course with an emphasis in dairy processing, dairy product sensory evaluation, chemistry or microbiology. Students in Dairy Science departments must provide evidence of enrollment in a dairy foods option or specialization. Completed original applications and supporting materials at each university should be submitted to the department head/chairperson, who is to forward them so they are recei ved by November 4, 2002, plus seven (7) copies of each to the Dairy Recognition and Education Foundation Office.

M.E. FRANKS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM STUDENT CRITERIAThe Dairy Recognition and Education Foundation annually sponsors graduate and undergraduate scholarships for junior and senior students enrolled in university programs that emphasize Dairy Foods or Food Science, and Agribusiness. Gradua te scholarships are for Masters or Ph.D. candidates. Junior or senior students who have received scholarship(s) may apply for a graduate scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded as follows: 1. Four (4) $3,000 scholarships will be available for undergraduates entering their junior or senior enrollment at any college or university with a program that emphasizes Dairy Foods or Food Science and Technology, and Agribusiness. Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian citizens. Majors to include: Dairy Foods and Food Science or Food Technology. Dairy Foods and Food Marketing, including Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Business Management, with course work and/or thesis emphasis in food science or dairy foods, would also qualify. Up to four (4) $3,000 scholarships will be available for graduate students enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. degree program and majoring in one of the above. 2. Additional funds will be used for one or more undergraduate scholarships at the discre tion of the selection jury. 3. Scholarship application forms will be provided or distributed by DREF. Scholarships will be announced in February, and payment will follow upon certification of full time enrollment by the department chairperson for the next or current academic unit. Payment will be in the form of one check to each student selected.
