Spanish term

en plastas

Spanish to English Social Sciences Archaeology
From a Mexican text. It doesn't make any sense the way I've translated it, so I assume that I'm misunderstading "en plastas" --
My version: One can see that mineral or plant dyes were applied in a thick paste, or more frequently, in shades of black and white, red, ...

The original: Se observa el uso de pigmentos minerales y vegetales en plastas o, más frecuentemente, en degradados de negro y blanco, rojo, café, amarillo, turquesa, cian, verde y púrpura.

Discussion

cw010 (X) Jul 4, 2006:
I imagined that the paints were in a kind of paste made from the vegetables or suchlike and that they maybe had to be diluted for use. Its difficult to say without much more context. Thanks for the points!

Note from asker:
Charlotte: Does the sentence make sense to you? It seems odd that it says "in paste form, or more frequently, [a list of colors] ..." because the paste was colored (dyed) with mineral or plant material... thanks!
