I always translate it as miga sand. I can't quite remember all the research I did at the time, but miga sand can be found near Madrid, so it's local, not global.

: I translate arena de miga as "coarse sand". "Miga sand" is too local at the international level and grava / gravilla is not the same material, as you can see from these photos: http://aridos-siro.com/.
