Dear members,

As part of the May release the directory has been updated to make the average searchs much faster. We have also introduced other improvements, in particular we added a new "candidate folder" that makes it possible to select and email a group of translators quickly.

Please feel free to post your feedback in this thread.

Once again thanks to you, our members, for making these improvements possible.

Thanks,
Enrique

How about directory text ads? May 18, 2006

Thanks for your ongoing efforts, ProZ staff members.

I would like to bring up the issue of Directory Text Ads. How effective have they been for members? Is there any data collected on this?

The text ad for Directory Text Ads reads:

I would like to bring up the issue of Directory Text Ads. How effective have they been for members? Is there any data collected on this?

The text ad for Directory Text Ads reads:

"Directory Text Ads
Stand out from the crowd with
effective, targeted text ads
Find out more"

Personally, I have noticed the following.

1. Visibility (lack of)
- Ads are placed in a very inconspicuous place. They are located to the left of the results list (it is a fact that fewer people tend to look away to the lefthand side from their main focus of attention). Also, they do not appear on the first page of results (you have to scroll down).
- In addition, ads do not contain colors that would highlight them in any way so as to "stand out from the crowd" as the text ad ad says.
2. Ease of Editing (lack of)
- When you write the text of your ad, you cannot tell how it will look on the actual page. In other words, the ad creation/edit page is not wysiwyg.
- Even though there are 2 separate textboxes each with a character limit, no line break is provided in the ad proper - the two lines are merged together into one.
3. Targeting Scope (lack of)
If outsourcers can search without providing a specific field (and they do), why can't I target that sort of search with my ad?

I would like to see some improvements in the areas I mentioned here. Comments and thoughts are very welcome from all, especially those who have had some experience with these text ads.
