Bio
Born in Chicago to a bilingual family, I grew up speaking both English and German. While studying at the University of Iowa, I majored in Spanish/Pre-Medicine and studied abroad in Chile and Spain. I also did neuroscience research for four years, coached Special Olympics and conducted medical internships abroad to learn more about science and medicine. In order to combine my love of languages and science, I began my professional career as a Medical Interpreter for Spanish and German speakers. For a year I interpreted in any and all hospital departments in addition to translating medical documents, brochures, consent forms and patient files regularly. For the past two years since then, I've continued doing translation work on a freelance basis. Though my specialty lies in medical translation, I've also translated general documents, legal materials and research articles. I've even had writing of my own published. At the age of only 19, I became the co-author of a research article about Parkinson's Disease which was published in Nature. And, I've had two poems and a short story that I wrote in Spanish published in Azahares literary magazine. I've included the links to my publications below.https://www.nature.com/articles/npjparkd201510https://class.uafs.edu/sites/class.uafs.edu/files/Departments/Languages/documents/azahares_2017.pdf
