International Institute of Information Technology – Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has come up with a new language translation system which will offer translations between twelve different Indian languages.

Billed as first Indian software application for the Indian languages, the machine translation system was launched by former president of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, at the ongoing 20th World Wide Web conference here on Wednesday.

The project, named as Sampark, offers translation services in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil and English. IIIT-H is planning to make the entire set of Indian language translation system ready in a phased manner.

Initiated by the Department of Information Technology (DIT), the programme aims to develop information-processing tools to facilitate human machine interaction in Indian languages and to develop technologies to access multilingual knowledge resources.
