Professional practices Camila Gómez Zamo endorses's Professional Guidelines (v1.1).

I’d like to present myself: I’m Camila Gómez, I’m a graduated Sworn Translator of English, I live in the beautiful city of Córdoba, Argentina, I’m a nerd and a gamer, and I love what I do. I cannot think of another profession that would allow me to do absolutely everything I enjoy; from reading stories, subtitling series, finding the solution of a problem after racking my brains, to localizing videogames (and of course, playing them afterwards!). Moreover, my organization skills, practicality and adaptation capacity have proven to be just perfect for the translation world.

Being a Sworn Translator who studied in the prestigious Faculty of Languages of the National University of Córdoba, my knowledge and education on translation studies allowed me to work for renowned corporations and agencies, such as Amazon, Netflix and Mayo Clinic. In the case of Netflix, I subtitled some episodes of the Korean series “What she put on the Table,” “Secret Healer,” and “Take my Brother away.” For over six month, I postedited e-commerce content for Amazon, for which I also translated the synopsis of episodes of the famous TV show “Two and a Half Men.” Another one of my interests include health care; I could expand and hone my skills in this field by working several months in a big project that involved the translation of health care brochures for Mayo Clinic.

One of my main projects consists of the translation of the historical fantasy book “Shadow of the Wolf” (“El lobo de Badenoch”), by Malcolm Archibald, in which I worked for over four months and which can be found in many important e-book stores across the web. As a freelance translator, I’ve translated and edited private legal documents such as transcripts, birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas and contracts. I have also volunteered in organizations such as Global Text Project and TED, which I assisted with the translation of the history book “A Comprehensive Outline of World History” and subtitling of videos related to the fields of Law and Social Sciences, respectively.

Since I am constantly looking to improve as a professional, expand my knowledge and provide the best possible service, I have been part of several courses, seminars, workshops and conferences about subtitling, software and tools for translators and video game localization.
