(in context): on life savings
Hi,
Although "nest-egg" has been suggested and it is a valid dictionary translation, it's too informal for a text of this nature and would more likely be found in a marketing text, a brochure for a bank savings product or a retirement annuity etc - not a taxation text.
Estate is too wide a term, as RH has already stated.
Private reserves is not far off but like estate is too wide a term as it can extend further than the savings one amasses during his/her lifetime.
For a bit of history, the term does come from the Latin peculium and was also used to refer to "slave savings" - to the right of a slave to amass savings during his lifetime and purchase his freedom.
The term "life savings" is better suited to a tax/finance text. If you then include "nest egg" in brackets, that would be a possible translation solution, but is not necessary and not advised as a stand-alone term.
There are many inequities and problems in such a form of taxation. ... eating up life savings put by to finance all the years of retirement, ...

[PS: The term is also used to describe a lump-sum payment in the hands of beneficiaries but with the additional context you've provided, your text is not referring to a deceased estate.]
Hope this helps

Just google taxation + (life) savings and you'll see.
The addition of the adjective "life" is not strictly needed but brings out the idea more clearly as to what the taxpayer has amassed as at that point in time.
